Shepway Green Party is looking to increase its presence on Folkestone and Hythe District Council (FHDC) and retain control of Hythe Town Council in the local elections on 4 May. The party is fielding more candidates in more seats than ever before.
Greens won six seats on the district council in 2019 and the same number on the town council (adding another in 2021) and recently retook Hythe West from the Conservatives by a margin of 500 votes in a Kent County Council by-election.
The party is now hoping Conservatives will lose control of the district council, for which they have relied upon the support of UKIP and independent councillors.
“These local elections offer a choice between four more years of the same disregard for democracy and ‘we know what’s best for you’ recklessness, and a new council with honesty and integrity, ready to listen, involve and work hard to deliver the best for the whole of our district.
“I am so proud of what we’ve managed to achieve in opposition by working collaboratively with other parties but remaining committed to Green values. No one has defected to or from the Green group since 2019 and voters know what they will get if they give us their support on 4 May: councillors who will work hard on their behalf and do all they can to achieve the best for our communities.”
Councillor Lesley Whybrow, leader of the Green group on FHDC
