Hythe Town Council, West Ward
I was one of the first members of Shepway Green Party and have lived in Hythe for nearly 30 years. My four sons grew up in Hythe and I am a runner and cyclist, a terrible guitarist and a Crystal Palace season ticket holder. I worked in social services, housing and education and escaped just in time.
We are very fortunate to live in a town which has managed to keep many of its green spaces with both wonderful countryside and the sea on our doorstep. My favourite sights around Hythe are kingfishers flying low over the canal and the yearly return of the swans to their nests. I think our role as councillors is to try and encourage community involvement in all aspects of decision making about the future of Hythe. My main worry for the town is the fact that Hythe is very vulnerable to climate change and rising sea levels. We don’t want our next Mayor impersonating King Canute.
