Hythe Town Council (West Ward)

I had the honour of serving Hythe after being elected as the first ever Green Party councillor on Kent County Council in 2013. I was re-elected in 2017 before stepping down in 2021.

I was elected to Hythe Town Council in May 2019 and re-elected in May 2023.

As a councillor, I have championed road safety (including 20 mph), biodiversity (with a motion, unanimously adopted by full council, for KCC to adopt a Pollinator Action Plan), the climate emergency (at both KCC and HTC), ending one-time use of plastic (chairing a working group at KCC), adopting a plant-based food policy to reduce carbon emissions and improving recycling and reuse.

I have lived in Hythe for 25+ years, am married (to Lesley), we have two children and I am a journalist by trade. Among other things, I founded Transition Hythe (now Hythe Environmental Community Group). In my spare time, I play cricket (for Hythe Green) and tennis, bird watch, am an animal rights activist, and do Tai Chi and meditation.
