My family and I first made Folkestone our home in 2009, moving here when our twins were three years old. Initially my hands were full with the demands of family life but, once the children started school, I had more time to work within the local community, first at Canterbury Christ Church University’s campus in the old Glassworks (sadly no longer there) and more recently for a rural land surveying business outside Hythe.
Before moving to Folkestone, I had gained lots of really useful experience in project management, working for the BBC in London and Washington DC.
In the time I have lived here the rate of development has been astounding and often seemingly at the expense of our natural environment. As a parent now of teenagers who are looking to their futures I have been motivated to get involved in local government. Our young people are worried about the world they are growing up in. It’s time to start listening to them for the sake of our community.
I am a long-standing yoga enthusiast and regular swimmer and have completed several Swimathons over the years. You may also see me out and about with a large somewhat unwieldy dog.
I am passionate about our community especially as it affects our younger people, older people and most vulnerable – in short all those who are so often overlooked in the decision-making process. With my background in project management, I understand the impact of considerations of time and money and, as a Councillor, I am determined to make sure the council works for everyone.
