Georgina Treloar

Georgina Treloar is our Green Party candidate for Hythe West for the Kent County Council elections on 6th May. She writes:

“It’s been the toughest of years but we must hang on to some of the things we have enjoyed too, like getting closer to nature. We have to stop the destruction of our open spaces, the infilling of the breathing spaces within and between our communities.

“As a Green district councillor for the last two years I have gained a real insight into the issues facing local people. A member of the planning committee, I have been a vocal advocate for residents’ concerns, especially in environmental matters such as flooding. My motion for the district council to declare a climate and ecological emergency passed unanimously and the council is now working towards becoming carbon net zero by 2030.

“This has demonstrated the difference made by having a Green voice on the council and Martin Whybrow has demonstrated that too at county level, where he has been elected twice. I am hoping to succeed him in Hythe West and continue Martin’s excellent work on behalf of local residents, on issues such as road safety, and on county-wide matters, such as the introduction of a pollinator action plan.

“Green councillors work hard and speak up for people all year round. We have got things done – by challenging but also by looking for common ground and that’s what I would do at Kent County Council on behalf of people in Hythe, Dymchurch and Lympne.”
