The administrator for the unfinished Sands Motel development in St Mary’s Bay has thanked our Romney Marsh by-election candidate Malcolm Watkinson for highlighting the current state of the site and have instructed their security contractor to visit and make recommendations for improvements.
Malcolm was responding to growing concerns from the local community over trespassing and vandalism when he took a proactive stance to call for urgent action. He wrote to the administrators and later spoke with them in a phone call during which they thanked Malcolm for sharing photographs of the building.
The administrator, on seeing these images, expressed deep concern about the current state of the site, reinforcing the need for swift and comprehensive action.
As the community awaits the results of their on-site inspection and recommendations, this collaborative effort between a Green Party candidate, concerned residents, and the administrators shows just what local people can expect when they elect a Green Party councillor. The Romney Marsh by-election takes place on 22 February.
Says Malcolm: “I had heard from so many people who are frustrated by the state of the Sands Motel site that I felt I had to do something straight away. As it turned out, the administrators, who have spent tens of thousands of pounds on security, were horrified when they saw the images I shared with them. Hopefully they will be able to improve the situation in the short term, and a buyer can be found for the site so residents no longer have to suffer this eyesore .”
