There was a great turn out in Folkestone for today’s Climate Strike. As elsewhere around the globe, in massive numbers, people came out onto the streets to back the school children who have been leading the protest. Locally, meeting in the centre of town, at the Junction 13 café, the march went through the town centre and down to the harbour, with plenty of goodwill along the way from well-wishers.
Green Party parliamentary candidate and Extinction rebellion activity, Georgina Treloar, addressed the crowds, setting out the issues, why there is a need for direct protest and such urgency, and the council’s recent Climate and Ecological Emergency declaration. There were renditions of a specially composed song, then the throng made its way back up to finish outside the town hall.
Elsewhere in the District, a number of schools held their own actions. Congratulations to everyone who came along and see you again next time!
