Rebecca Shoob, Polly Blakemore, and Mike Blakemore, the Green councillors for Cheriton ward, have responded to the community’s feedback and successfully obtained a legally enforceable improvement notice that has been issued to the proprietors of the former White Lion pub located on Cheriton High Street.

The ‘Section 215’ notice lists more than 25 actions the owners must take, including retiling the roof, replacing brickwork, doors and windows and removing graffiti and scaffolding.

Cllr Polly Blakemore – Cabinet Member for Transport, Regulatory Services and Building Control – said: “Local residents have shared their concerns about The White Lion for a long time. While the future of the building is yet to be decided, it’s unacceptable for the owners to leave it in this state for so long.

“Serving a Section 215 notice should ensure improvements are made and see the property return to a neat and tidy condition.”

Councillor Mike Blakemore says: “The White Lion has been raised with us many times and we were determined to act as soon as we could, so we’ve been working closely with council officers ever since we were elected to get something done about this eyesore. The owners of the White Lion must comply with the notice or face legal action.”
