Shepway Green Party is delighted to announce Anita Jones as our candidate for the Hythe East by-election on Hythe Town Council. The vacancy has arisen due to a Conservative councillor resigning and will take place on 6th May, the same day as the Kent County Council elections.
A key aim for Anita is to protect the green space and woodland in Hythe and Seabrook. "I want to see an end to over-development in the area, especially Princes Parade – this election is another chance to send a strong message once more about saving our precious open spaces," she says.
She is also keen to support the community including local businesses and youth-related activities and groups, with the need for more facilities for our young people.
Since the elections two years ago, Hythe Town Council has undergone a significant change in culture under its Green Party/Residents Alliance/Lib Dem coalition leadership. We at last have a proactive local council that is making a big difference in our community. This is in areas such as climate change, including planting 1000+ trees to-date (rather than cutting them down) and reducing emissions, with a zero carbon target of 2025. Other areas of focus have been road safety, support for local businesses, monitoring air quality, and improving mental and physical health – and with lots more on the ‘to do’ list, particularly as we seek a fair, green recovery from the pandemic.
About Anita:
- She has lived in Hythe for the last 16 years and also as a child.
- She is a professional musician and co-director of a local business.
- She has worked as a teacher in secondary schools and is scout leader at Trident Explorer Scout Unit (1st Hythe) and local co-ordinator for the Kent Scouts Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.
- She is a member of Seabrook Primary School PTA (formerly the chairperson).
- She is married with two sons and a dog, and loves living in Hythe because of the beaches and countryside and the lovely people!
She concludes: "My husband and I love Hythe. We wouldn’t want to raise our boys anywhere else."
