We are delighted that a 20 mph zone is on the way for a large number of streets in Hythe between the seafront and the A259 Prospect Road, from and including Stade Street to the east (with its GP surgery, library and council offices) and Cinque Ports Avenue and Portland Road to the west. This follows a central government study of all 20 mph zones to date across the country that found they bring a clear reduction in serious injuries and deaths, thereby resulting in much more positive approach to their introduction by KCC, as the Highways Authority. The scheme was instigated by our KCC member and funded by Hythe Town Council from the developer-derived Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL).
Also being investigated, with design work under way, are measures to improve sight-lines and reduce speeding on Twiss Road and South Road in Hythe; a reduction in the speed limit through Court-at-Street following a number of incidents here; and the long overdue permanent rebuild of Eastbridge Road in Dymchurch, with the latter now on the list of schemes at KCC for 2020/21 delivery, after a huge amount of pressure and lobbying.
We have been asked by a Green Party Activist in Newcastle to share this petition asking the Government to consider making all residential roads 20mph.
