We have a terrific opportunity to add to the Green-led coalition on Hythe Town Council with a by-election on 17th June for the Hythe East ward, as a result of a Conservative stepping down. Anita Jones, our candidate, would bring a love of Hythe, business experience and deep knowledge of the community to the council. Anita grew up in Hythe and has lived here for 16 years. As a professional musician and business woman, she knows how to get things done in our town. “I’m passionate about our town, and the people who live in it, I’ve worked as teacher, I volunteer for the Scouts and with the Duke of Edinburgh Scheme, which I really enjoy!”
Here’s Anita in her own words:
In terms of Anita’s priorities, she says: “I’ll support the council’s efforts to become carbon neutral and work with them to introduce schemes that will increase biodiversity across the council’s estate. I’ll never support plans that damage our vital open spaces.” She has been a staunch opposer of developing on Princes Parade from the outset.
Anita also wants to help with our community’s recovery. “As a business woman working in Hythe, I want to help traders and shopkeepers and make their voices heard at the Town Hall. We need to boost Hythe as a tourist destination, we need to improve and promote our beautiful town.”
And road safety is another key cause for Anita. “Parts of this area can seem like to M25 at time, especially during the school run. I will continue the excellent work already being carried out by Green councillors to make our roads safer.”
Martin Whybrow, one of our Green town councillors and our former KCC councillor comments: “Anita would be such a great addition to our ranks on the Town Council. She would bring so many attributes that would complement those already there, who are working so hard to improve our town, engage with the community, and make the Town Council a proactive, positive force for change.”
The Green Party has won every Town Council seat it has contested since 2015 but we rely solely on volunteers.
